ALDE Awards for excellence is the industry’s opportunity to recognise Engineering Excellence within land development engineering, amongst businesses and individuals.

Expressions of Interest open for the 2021 inaugural awards open Wednesday 18th March for the categories detailed below. Submit your EOI via this link http://bit.ly/ALDE_Awards Expressions of Interest close 16th April 2021. Applications close 30th July 2021.

Winners will be announced at ALDE’s Fine Food & Wine Night in October this year.

Judging criteria for each award are detailed below.

Future Leader / Young Professional of the Year

This award will recognise an individual (Under the age of 35 on 31 December 2021) who has made their mark on improving the vision and culture of land development engineering.

The judges will be looking for:

  • Evidence of how the individual has inspired others in their organisation or the industry
  • Examples of how the individual achieved the highest technical, professional and community service standards in engineering
  • Evidence of their impact on the engineering profession through their contributions to the industry
  • Outstanding performance in their occupation with a focus on the achievements/performance of the nominee that are beyond the normal
  • Leadership: Document examples where the nominee may have led a significant project, leadership roles in the workplace and leadership roles amongst land development engineering professionals.
  • Participation in professional sub-committees and groups: Consideration should be given to committees that the nominee may have served on and representation roles – either within the workplace or within the greater industry
  • Contribution to significant projects: include the actual role the nominee played in the project e.g., did they lead the project, contribute a specific component of technical expertise, liaise with client/stakeholder etc
  • Ongoing continuing professional education: include nominee’s commitment to continuing professional development events e.g. list ongoing study, participation/attendance at CPD, and organisation/presentation of CPD events

Engineering Excellence & Innovation

Innovation can be achieved through many different routes – for example, achieving better outcomes in a different way to a standard process, inventing something completely new or applying an existing technology or process to solve a new problem; thus creating a more optimised product.

The judges will be looking for:

  • Evidence of the innovative solution to the problem faced
  • Evidence of what impact the innovation has had
  • Evidence of how the innovation has led to the creation of new skills, knowledge or experience
  • Products or projects that made a significant contribution to the industry through the introduction of a new idea, method, technology, process or application resulting in social, environmental and/or economic benefits
  • Project description: This sets up the context of the project and helps judges to compare projects. Describe the time frame of the project (is it a discrete project or part of a bigger program) relative size, a brief statement of complexity (multiple stakeholders, unusual constraints), funding source (private, CRC/research, other grant)
  • Innovation Claim: Why did you need to innovate and what’s unique about your innovation?  You might describe how your project showcases design of original solutions or ingenious adaptation of existing solutions such as innovative application of emerging or developing technologies
  • Product market fit: Demonstrate how the project meets a quantified market need, how the need has been validated and commercial viability including market take-up of the innovation commercial viability including market take-up of the innovation.
  • Market entry strategy: Describe the rationale for the approach to market including overcoming barriers of entry to market
  • Contribution to Industry: Describe how the project has had an ongoing impact on the industry or the community, for example realising new technical, social, cultural, environmental and/or economic benefits.

Best Small Consultancy

This award recognises a small consultancy (<20 employees) that has made a commitment to support the development of its people and is doing what it can with resources available to widen participation and create a more diverse and inclusive engineering industry. The judges will be looking for evidence of

  • A consultancy that is supporting the future of engineering in land development
  • Encouraging improvements in educational and technical standards and skills
  • Fostering the standing of consultancies within all forms of government and the community generally
  • Upholding the ethics of the industry.

Best Medium Consultancy

This award recognises a medium (20-50 employees) which has made a commitment to support the development of its people and is doing what it can with resources available to widen participation and create a more diverse and inclusive engineering industry.

The judges will be looking for evidence of

  • Activities that foster diversity and inclusion in the industry
  • Implementing improvements in educational and technical standards and skills
  • Advocating for and fostering the standing of consultancies within all forms of government and the community generally
  • Upholding the ethics of the industry
  • Explain your commitment to the ongoing health and safety of your team and workplace
  • Explain your commitment to ensuring your staff and team are encouraged to continue developing in order to help the company achieve excellence.

Best Large Consultancy

This category will celebrate an employer (>50 employees) who comprehensively supports its engineers, and who proactively promotes diversity and creating an inclusive profession.

The judges will be looking for:

  • Policies and actions that foster diversity and inclusion in the industry
  • Programs or processes that achieve improvements in educational and technical standards & skills
  • Advocating for and fostering the standing of consultancies within all forms of government and the community generally
  • Actions that demonstrate social responsibility
  • Corporate leadership
  • Describe your Consultancy’s achievement of excellence in delivery of land development engineering services, including business vitality and culture, business accreditations, staff development, community involvement, support for young professionals and professional image
  • Explain your commitment to the ongoing health and safety of your team and workplace
  • Explain your commitment to ensuring your staff and team are encouraged to continue developing in order to help the company achieve excellence
  • List any positions held within the engineering profession or broader property and construction sector.  This may include Boards, Committees and working groups.

Sub Consultant / Supplier of the Year

This category will celebrate excellence displayed by a key sub consultant or supplier in the land development industry.

The judges will be looking for:

  • Evidence of professional approach
  • Evidence of where Safety, Quality & Environment is embedded in the culture of the business
  • Initiatives that have increased awareness of safety, quality or environmental principles
  • Evidence of capability through outstanding project work
  • Evidence of working with consultants and proven ability to communicate and cooperate.

Civil or Specialist Construction Contractor of the Year

This category will celebrate excellence displayed by a civil or specialist construction contractor in the land development industry

The judges will be looking for:

  • Evidence of professional approach
  • Evidence of where Safety, Quality & Environment is embedded in the culture of the business
  • Initiatives that have increased awareness of safety, quality or environmental principles
  • Evidence of capability through outstanding project work
  • Evidence of working with consultants and proven ability to communicate and cooperate
